ArtMoblie 2015…I’M BACK!!! Week One (Paper Weaving)
July 13th, 2015
When Inspiration Hits You…You feel no pain
LORD KNOWS I LOVE what I do! I have found extreme value in doing what makes me feel warm and fuzzy! The artMOBILE does just that! Every single one of us has a purpose to find AND work to maintain your level of joy…it’s a real thing…trust me! The further from your purpose, I feel, is equivalent to how much your childhood joy has been depleted and jaded by the world. I listened to something that was guiding me from the inside. I learned to listen to it and when I do I feel GREAT because I feel a bit more complete! So, THIS time around I’m going to give a weekly account of the activities, the creations and memorable moments!
New Blood / fresh meat…more brains
Something, really just about ANYTHING to do with art is where my purpose is. So getting mix it up as an artMOBILE Educator, and have fun in the summer sun is as heavenly as it sounds! This year my NEW partner is Danielle MacNeil! She’s a UMASS Dartmouth graduate and PLENTY of experience working with kids! She makes my job easy! But she shares that credit with the other NEW addition to our Hustle. Our NEW artMOBILE Coordinator Claire Munley is as organized as they get! Not to mention the activities she’s coming up with are keep some young hands busy and involved! There are two artMOBILEs running these streets…for now. My partner and I are artMOBILE 1 and the other is artMOBILE 2 with Chantal Allen and Gabrielle Monteiro. Together we service 20 site throughout the City of New Bedford, Monday through Friday. I’ll get more into more on the Ladies as the weeks go by!
You down with A-R-T? Yeah, Know Me!!!
As most of you know I’m a people person and I enjoy the interaction that conversation offers. Throw some paper, pencil and some time and MAGIC happens! You get to know people when you talk to them, so imagine how much I get to know people as we create! It’s ALWAYS the better part of someone that I mingle with as one becomes engaged in an creative activity. On top of all that I’m a big kid, I LOVE to play and the kids are my people!
Art isn’t just child’s play
I work to hook the adults in too. Many stay off in the distance, but I use the kids as bait! Parents are just big kids too, some just forget. When they see the interaction all they really need is an invitation…almost permission to have fun. Art is not just for kids, we just have more fun! I consider myself extremely fortunate that I still LOVE to play…and often!
Art is Brain Gymnastics
Kids are GREAT because I get to be the kewl guy! I can draw things quick and satisfy their immediate gratification, breaking the ice is easy. I think it’s like being a magician but without the top hat…for now. The moments we share with the kids is priceless, we are a portion of the childhood that will feed their future character. Tapping into one’s personal creativity can unlock all kinds of confidence and empowerment. If you can create an idea out of nothing, it is EASY to realize you can do ANYTHING! I want to make a difference in someone’s life as a career.
The beauty of having this much Love for the job is that I’m supported by the artMOBILE DREAM TEAM!!! This year’s team is seasoned! Even the newer members have taken to this job like experience professionals, likely because they are! Even the New Bedford Art Museum / Artworks! administrators are always asking us if there is anything we need. We are a well oiled, mobile-oasis-delivery-system of creative inspiration!
