Paper Bag Picture Puppet Pages and Beyond

Growing up I wanted to be a veterinarian…but my earliest memories are of drawing. I was instantly “drawn” to artistic expression at a VERY young age and took most opportunities to draw & color, like most kids are encouraged to do. I was the kid in elementary school who drew everyone else’s animals and such for our assignments. In middle school I was drawing naked women for my puberty driven friends…but Art was a normal thing to me.

It’s NOT Where You’re From, It’s Where You’re At! Part Two

I thought that there would be a challenge to writing about the Art Life and all of its Glory in a consistent manner. I was right. BUT the challenge is rewarding. Organizing my thoughts and processing them through pictures and perspectives has been a step up in my professional growth. Living here in the Lovely City of New Bedford also makes it pretty easy. I take a LOT of pictures in a week! So, I wanted to put together some of my photos up before the year passes, and the events come back around! Most of these events I happen to run into, seldom have I planned to go to something. I’m plotting on putting the “art game” in a choke hold, so I don’t get out as much as I’d like. The City looks out for me though!

It’s NOT Where You’re From, It’s Where You’re At! Part One

I recently went on a PHENOMENAL road trip to South Florida, with my brother Lloyd LaMarre. We went to see my daughter graduate Nursing school to become an RN. On that trip I went to the Arts and Entertainment district of Wynwood, Miami. It is home to over 70 galleries, museums and collections. I’m not sure if New Bedford has the physical wall space, but I’m going to work on covering them…inside out! By the end of the trip I had time to reflect on what my hometown meant to me, and who it made me (I’ll get into that in another post). BUT, I was happy to get the HELL out of the plague of humidity, and go back Home to New Beige!

ArtMoblie 2015…Week Seven (Special Occasion Cakes)

One thing MOST of us, young and old, can appreciate the idea of celebration a cake brings! We ALL have our favorites! And we also have memories tied to the different cakes that mark certain occasions! Whether it’s a birthday, wedding, anniversary, or (my favorite) just for the sake of cake, we come across it one way or another! What can I say, kids LOVE dessert! Read More

ArtMoblie 2015…Week Six (Paper Bag Puppets)

Puppet Power!

I have no shame in saying it one bit…this past week’s activity is my OFFICIAL FAVORITE, CRAFTING, CREATIVE, ARTISTIC PROJECT of ANY I’ve done…even among my own custom creations. I’ve made my own sauropod dinosaur, sea turtles, turbo snail (with lightening bolts) from scratch…but the easy and age-level friendliness of Paper Bag Puppets made this the winner! The possibilities of what animal, person or monster that can be created are endless. The more I thought of what I could do with this another kid would broaden my horizon a bit more with a new perspective. Mind you, I haven’t even gotten to the spontaneous story lines and role playing that occurred unsolicited.

ArtMoblie 2015…Week Five (Personal Place Mats – Favorite Foods)

I LOVE EATING!!! You know you do too! Hey, we ALL have to do it to live…might as well ENJOY IT!!! Seeing what kinds of foods kids like, it no wonder Ma & Pa Raffas, Dominoes and Cumbie’s are making a living slinging pizza! You can see for yourself! There’s a pretty good variety of other foods they had in mind once the subject came up! My food world has been HEAVILY impacted by the linguica alone (there’s a host of other foods)! Never had it before these last two years, but I’m making up for it. I thought I had my undercover foodie badge protected, but the Portuguese and Cape Verde influence on food around here had other plans.

ArtMoblie 2015…Week Four (Accordion Books)

Let the Sun shine!

We are over halfway done with our creative weekly adventures! Mother nature has been rather unpredictable too. She’s made me feel like I was back in South Florida with the heat and humidity, wearing us down. She’s also opened up a few times, halting our efforts BUT we get right back at it when she gives us a break!

Keepin’ it movin’

WHAAAT!!! It’s already been three weeks on the creative wagon and we’re a lean mean ART MACHINE!!! This week’s activity of RADICAL RUBBINGS went over WAAAY better than expected! It’s not that I thought it would not go over well, I just didn’t expect the kids to get so involved that I can’t really post the majority of work like the previous activities. This is a PERFECT project for ALL demographics! If you can’t meet us, you can join us…the instructions are SOOO SIMPLE!!!

ArtMoblie 2015…Week Two (Water Color Whales)

Makin’ it do what it do

Yet another week is in the bag,  The WATER COLOR WHALE lesson Claire put together was a HIT with young and older! I LOVE seeing how art sparks creativity in those willing to be curious enough to try. I’m borderline aggressive with the way I reel in kids and adults…in a nice way.  I think my full adjustment to being in the outdoors is complete too. At the end of the week, there are happy kids AND adults with a little less space on the refrigerator doors…MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Mother nature was even on our side!

ArtMoblie 2015…I’M BACK!!! Week One (Paper Weaving)

When Inspiration Hits You…You feel no pain

LORD KNOWS I LOVE what I do! I have found extreme value in doing what makes me feel warm and fuzzy! The artMOBILE does just that! Every single one of us has a purpose to find AND work to maintain your level of joy…it’s a real thing…trust me! The further from your purpose, I feel, is equivalent to how much your childhood joy has been depleted and jaded by the world. I listened to something that was guiding me from the inside. I learned to listen to it and when I do I feel GREAT because I feel a bit more complete! So, THIS time around I’m going to give a weekly account of the activities, the creations and memorable moments!
